One of Robert’s favorite places to paint has been Pemaquid, a breathtakingly scenic area that draws many artists and photographers during the brief Maine summers. On cold winter days, Robert would often climb down the granite cliffs to paint the lobster boats that worked so precariously close to shore in the churning sea. The fisherman would drop their lobster pots and race away before the powerful waves dashed them against the rocky shoreline. New works -->

Robert Stebleton’s Unique Approach to Acrylics

The artist’s distinctive technique blends the brilliance of acrylics with the eloquent look of watercolors achieving a distinctive style with an unmatched painterly quality. Stebleton’s acrylic paintings are a dichotomy of style: at once powerful yet subtle. At times, the artist works on a panel with layers of gesso and paint achieving the rich look of an oil painting. Other times he uses watercolor paper with a fluid mastery of color, light and shadows. His work reveals maturity and a personal relationship between the artist and his subject. Whether it’s a figure study, a boat or an old farmhouse in the snow, Robert considers himself a painter of portraits.
